Buffalo, New York, Highpoint
By Daniel B Case [dancase@frontiernet.net]
It's not that difficult to get to this house on Winspear Ave. Those unfamiliar with the city are best advised to take NY 33 in from the Thruway or the airport and get off at Eggert Road. Go north about 2-3 miles and you will reach the traffic light at Winspear, near a school. Turn right and this house is perhaps a block down, right at the city limit (detectable in the photo by the sign in front of the house announcing the city's overnight parking regulations) and a three-way intersection. I cannot remember the house number, and perhaps it's best that I don't to preserve some of the owner's privacy.

Technically, according to the Buffalo NE USGS quad, the HP is really this house's backyard. But it's a very flat neighborhood that certainly doesn't feel like a highpoint, and you'd never know it otherwise. What do you expect in a city not known for its hills? (220 feet total elevation gain from the shoreline along the Niagara River)

Oh, BTW, county HP for Erie is an unnamed peak in the Town of Sardinia (also someone's backyard ... they wouldn't let me in it) at elevation 1,940 feet.
