This map of Maryland shows the mountain ranges involved. You can see the huge length of the Backbone Mountain ridge which extends from Pennsylvania through the southwest tip of Maryland (where Hoye Crest the state highpoint) is on the West Virginia border. The Ridge continues on well into West Virginia going to the west of Spruce Knob, West Virginia's highest point. The ridge to the west of Backbone on the Pennsylvania border is the ridge on which Flight 93 crashed. The thick ridge (much thicker than most Allegheny Mountains) is Negro Mountain where Mount Davis is the highest point in Pennsylvania. In speculating the course of Flight 93 some wondered if it was headed to Camp David which is in the Catoctin Mountains in central Maryland.
